Lowell Milken
Co-Founder
Knowledge Universe Education
Lowell Milken Lowell Milken, widely regarded as an educational pioneer and reformer, is the co-founder of Knowledge Universe Education. He has been recognized extensively for his achievements in education with awards from organizations including the National Association of State Boards of Education, the Horace Mann League, and the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Lowell chairs the Milken Family Foundation (MFF), and has led its advances in education and medical research. In 1985, he conceived the Milken National Educator Awards, the largest teacher-recognition program in the United States, to recognize outstanding elementary and secondary educators and encourage talented young people to teach. Recognizing that sufficient numbers of quality teachers would never result from current education practices, Lowell launched the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) in 1999 as a research-based, comprehensive system to revitalize education through multiple career paths, professional development, accountability, and performance-based pay. Strong student achievement results and rapid expansion of the program led Lowell to establish a public charity, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET), to operate TAP and provide technical expertise for teacher quality initiatives nationwide. The Lowell Milken HighTechHigh-Los Angeles is a public charter school targeting disadvantaged students with a 21st century-caliber education. The school today is among the top 5% of all California high schools in terms of student achievement and was recently named a California Distinguished School, the fastest a school has ever received this status.

Lowell Milken is also chairman of London-based Heron International, a worldwide leader in property development and investment. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the proud father of four sons.
